WHY GIVE?

Why do we give to the local church?
As followers of Jesus Christ, we are privileged to be stewards of God's resources because He is the owner of all we have.  The bible reminds us of the importance of giving back a portion of what God has so graciously provided.  When we give back a portion, it is in fact an act of worship to be done with thankful hearts.
Proverbs 3:9-10 - 2 Corinthians 9:7-8

Why is giving so important?

Giving is important because it is a reflection of the life-changing work that Christ is doing in our lives. Jesus said that our "treasure" will always reflect what is in our hearts.  He also said we can't serve God and Money.  Giving is the solution, or the antidote to materialism.  If we are living generously it relieves the pressure to have to accumulate more.
Matthew 6:19-21 - Matthew 6:24

How much should we give?

Following God's direction regarding giving is critical for answering this question.  A "tithe" means 10 percent, and the bible tells us that we are "bring the whole tithe into the storehouse".  To do otherwise meant that God was being "robbed".  Jesus told his followers that the tithe was not to be neglected.  At Team Church, we believe that a tithe of 10 percent of income is the starting point for giving, and when the first 10 percent of all a person takes in as income is reserved first for the Lord, the remaining 90 percent is to be spent wisely and enjoyed.  In addition to that tithe, there may be times where a person is prompted to give beyond a tithe.  That would be considered an "offering" and is up to the person and how the Holy Spirit is speaking to them.
Malachi 3:8-10 - Matthew 23:23

How should I give?

Scripture speaks to the frequency, attitude and priority of giving by reminding us that our giving should be regular and consistent (pay days are a great time to write the check); our attitude should be one of cheer and joy; and our priority should be such that we are giving from a generous heart with anticipation that God will bless our giving.  Giving is an opportunity not only for the individual to worship God, but to obey God's direction; to trust God for continual provision; and in faith that God will take that money and use it to further His kingdom on Earth!
1Corinthians 16:1-2 - 2 Corinthian 9:6-7
